SpellRead provides an integrated, multi-sensory approach that builds a student's sound system and then bridges it with students' oral language. Students hear, manipulate, and process sounds, and then master the relationship between sounds and letters. Students' oral language is expanded through reading, comprehension and vocabulary strategies, and writing. This process builds confidence and mastery.

Students spend maximum time on task motivating, fast-paced lessons with immediate feedback from instructors. Explicit and supportive instruction ensures student mastery by working and re-working skills without a sense of repetition. Students experience immediate progress from the very first SpellRead lesson.
Once students complete the program, they can confidently move on to more sophisticated reading and writing activities. With further focus on increasing vocabulary development and reading comprehension, students are ready to tackle any subject area text.

The Spell Read Instructional Cycle
Comprehensive Instructional Cycle
SpellRead combines effective reading instruction with a proven delivery method. This intensive intervention model is designed for groups of up to six students with one certified teacher or paraprofessional, ideally in a 60- to 120-minute instructional block. Instructional cycle includes:
• Linguistic Foundations builds automaticity with scaffolded phonics and phonemic awareness activities.
• Active Reading supports students’ fluency through oral-reading practice using trade books and leveled readers.
• Writing Connections develops students’ ability to turn oral language into written language.
