A unique summer camp for youth in grade P-6 that provides daily instruction in literacy skills development to prepare students for the upcoming school year. Our camp offers a balanced schedule, combining education and active exploration of downtown HRM.
Monday to Thursday our campers take part in our evidence-based, gold-standard literacy skills development program, SpellRead. Each afternoon and all day Friday campers take part in active and engaging field trips. Activities include arts and crafts, swimming, trips to local museums, guest speakers and more! Camp runs Monday-Friday, 8:30-4:00pm.
Early and/or late drop off times can be arranged.
Each weeks’ activities are based on a theme inspired by daily reading material.

Summer Camp 2017 Full Itinerary
Week One | July 5th - 7th: Celebrating the Maritimes!
This week will be all about exploring our city! We begin the week being detectives at Citadel Hill, and continue on with a trip to the Emera Oval, Waterfront and Maritime Museum of the Atlantic.
Week Two | July 10th - 14th: Outdoor Adventures and Exploration
This week will be all about getting outdoors and exploring nature. Swimming, Scavenger Hunts and a trip to Point Pleasant Park will make this week all about exploration and being active outside.
Week Three | July 17th - 21st : Animal Planet
Calling all animal lovers! This week we have visits from a few very special guests, which include a visit from Little Rays Reptile Zoo and DogRunnin - a local canine company that will teach us about harness dog sports.
Week Four | July 24th - 28th: Wacky Scientists
Get your lab coats ready, this week we are all scientists! We will be exploring many
kid-friendly science experiments, crafts and checking out the new discovery center.
Week Five | July 31st - August 4th: Time Travelers
This week we will be travelling back in time - with visits to the Museum of Natural History, Citadel Hill, special guests and a trip to the Halifax Waterfront to explore the HMCS Sackville.
Week Six | August 7th - 11th: Water, Water, Everywhere!
This week we will be taking full advantage of being outside by the water! We will spend our afternoons swimming, getting up close with some sea creatures, and even becoming pirates for a day on the Halifax Waterfront with a tall ship cruise.
Week Seven | August 14th - 18th: Halifax Explorers
This week will be all about exploring the city. We will have trips to the Emera Oval, Halifax Library, swimming at Chocolate Lake and exploring Sir Sanford Fleming Park and the Dingle tower.
Emily has been a part of summer camp at CLF for four years. She is returning as Camp Director and is our Location Lead for our clinic in Halifax. Emily is a veteran of the SpellRead program, passionate about animals and loves the outdoors.
