Word on the Street is a free, annual festival that celebrates literacy in Atlantic Canada.  Presentations and exhibitors include local authors, poets, illustrators, spoken word artists and entertainers and more!

This year Halifax Learning was honored to take part in the "Adopt an Author" program as sponsors for young, established authors in our province.

We are thrilled to partner with Jeremy Holmes and Justin Gregg from the East Coast Music Award winning group, The LIttle Ditties.  Jeremy and Justin are the co-authors and illustrators of The Fancy Goat and have offered to donate 20 copies of this fun, free-spirited and above all FANCY book!  We cannot wait to add this title to our books and offer copies to our upcoming Student of the Month at each of our locations.

The Fancy Goat is published by Outside the Lines Press, a family owned, independent published located in Anitigonish. Outside the Lines specializes in, "Books that make you smile." and the Fancy Goat does just that.

"Encouraging children to explore their creative side and reaffirming the value of letting kids be kids when it comes to self-expression, Fancy Goat emphasizes that creativity is vital to a child’s intellectual development."

Skilled. Confident. Readers.

"When Danica started with SpellRead halfway through grade 4, it was in desperation.  As both her father and I love books, we really didn't know what we had done wrong.  What it came down to was that she had never really grasped the fundamentals of reading. She couldn't remember or just didn't know what the individual letters could sound like.  This greatly impacted both her written school work and her understanding of the written word.  After her time with SpellRead it's hard to find her without a book - when she should be sleeping, in the bathroom or even in school when she should be paying attention to the teachers.  You might say SpellRead created a monster! But, boy, are we happy about it!"
- A proud parent.
