Writing Connections

Writing Connections -

Halifax Learning developed the Writing Connections program to supplement SpellRead for people who need excellent writing skills fast. It is taught by author and SLP Natalie Corbett Sampson. Writing Connections provides students with the basic tools for writing in a clear and grammatically correct way. Students acquire a deeper knowledge of the basic components of writing, tackling different components each class.

As a Speech Language Pathologist, Natalie brings her expertise in functional language; as an author, she brings her love of words and creativity. Together these interests build a solid foundation to support excellent writing skills.

How it Works

Just like SpellRead, Writing Connections begins with simple topics, delivered in a consistent and explicit way. Students are provided with multiple opportunities to practice each skill until mastery is achieved. For example, students learn the proper way to use:

  • Capital letters
  • Punctuation
  • Commonly Confused Words

As skills improve, Writing Connections targets increasingly complex components. Like SpellRead, each concept in Writing Connections is fully mastered before the next one is introduced.

Additional Topics include:

  • Past & Present tense
  • Paragraph Structure
  • Essay Structure
  • Narrative and creative writing
  • Resumes
  • Cover Letters

These lessons are reinforced with opportunities for essay writing in and outside of class.
