[Halifax Learning](https://www.halifaxlearning.com/blog/author/halifax-learning) Aug 18, 2025 --- If you had told me a year ago that my son would *ask* to do his reading lessons, I would have laughed. Back then, reading was a battle. Homework took hours and his confidence was in shreds. We had tried extra help at school, some workbooks at home, and even a couple of different tutoring programs, but nothing seemed to click. Then a friend recommended the online program at Halifax Learning. I was pretty skeptical about how an online program could really make that much of a difference, but I was also desperate, so we signed up. From the very first session, I could tell something was different. His teacher knew exactly how to break down reading into steps, and she celebrated every little win. The program followed a set system, but it didn’t feel boring. My son loved the games, the short activities, and feeling like he was making progress. The best part for us is that he didn’t have to leave home. He could log in after school from our kitchen table. I could overhear the class sessions and see how much he was learning. Within a few months, I started noticing changes outside of lesson time. He was reading signs at the grocery store. He was trying to read the captions on his video games. He even read a bedtime story *to me*. It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to see your child go from frustrated and avoiding books to confident and curious.  If you’re a parent wondering whether online reading instruction can really work, I’m here to tell you that it can.
